How to Claim Your Facebook Username

If you have Facebook profiles and pages, you must be familiar with Facebook Username. If not, Facebook Username simply lets you personalize your Facebook URL (web address) by choosing a unique name. It will appear in the location bar of your browser after http://www.facebook.com/ when you view your profile or page.

With this concept, you will get a link similar to http://www.facebook.com/miladeblogger and this will now make it easier for you to share your profile or page with your loved ones and even print it on business cards, flyers, etc.

To get started, go to http://www.facebook.com/username (You should have already logged in on Facebook, if not please login) on your PC/Desktop.

Click on “Edit” adjacent to the Username. Type your preferred username and the system will automatically check for username availability. If the Username is available, the system will display “Username Available”. In case the username is already taken or not available, “Username is not available” will display. If your desired username is available, click on “Save Changes” in order to confirm your choice.

You should make sure that you select a username that you like and it’s appropriate for friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who might use it to find you. Users are permitted to have only one username for their personal profile/page.

After claiming your username, it’s not possible to transfer your username to a different account on Facebook but you can edit it in case you wish to change it again.

Also, when your Facebook account gets disabled, its username will not be made available. Facebook does it for security reasons.

Note: Facebook Usernames are only available for Facebook profiles and pages. You cannot claim a username for a group or event created with Facebook Applications.

In case you want to let your friends, family, and co-workers know the changes made to your username, you can simply share a post with your new username.

Am sure you will create yours as soon as possible before someone else claims it. Feel free to share your claimed Facebook username with me in the comment section below so we can connect on Facebook.

Have fun!
